What is Repair Café Yateley?
Where will the Café be?
Repair Café Yateley will be held at St Barnabas Church in Darby Green or St Swithuns Centre in Yateley (alternate months). Please see above notice or the booking form for confirmation of location for each month.
The Repair Café is a hub of local activity with people from all walks of life gathering to share stories, skills, and laughter.
It is a place where generations connect – where an older person with decades of repair experience can mentor a young enthusiast eager to learn.
We have some incredibly skilled residents in Yateley, especially in the older generation, who possess invaluable skills that are often overlooked. Repairing a broken chair, mending a torn shirt, or fixing a faulty kettle – these seemingly mundane tasks are essential life skills. The Repair Café, ensures that these skills are passed down to future generations.
Our planet faces a crisis of over consumption and waste. Repair Café Yateley addresses this issue. When an item is repaired here, we will extend its lifespan, reducing the need for new production. Imagine the impact if every community had a Repair Café – landfills would shrink, and our environment would breathe a sigh of relief!
The Repair Café embodies the principles of a circular economy – instead of the linear “take-make-dispose” model, it encourages a circular flow where items are repaired, reused, and valued.
Yateley Industries will become a beacon for sustainable practices.
The Repair Café isn’t just about fixing things; it is about learning. Participants will gain practical knowledge, whether it’s sewing on a button, soldering a circuit, or re-gluing a chair leg. This empowerment will ripple through our community, fostering resilience and self-sufficiency.
